Food, Glorious Food!

Yes, the title was completely ripped off of the title track from the British musical Oliver! Care to listen?

And so, can you guess where I went for bring your kids to work day? Yep, I went to my mom's workplace, a heavenly utopia where one can get all you can eat poutine, pizza, slushies, and more! Okay, okay- a certain cafeteria in a certain middle school whose name I'm not to reveal.

Actually, I had the choice between going to my dad's lab as an alternative, but since it's located downtown, plus the first choice meant an unlimited supply of tasty food, you can probably understand my choice. :P

Since I didn't go to school today, I have no homework, and so I will take the opportunity to blab on about my parents' occupations. We'll talk about my dad first. He's a researcher who works at a certain university (let's call it U of ?). Anyways, he's a programmer, and also a neuroscientist who studies the effects on monkey and rat brains when exposed to certain conditions. For fun, I used to tell people that my dad's job was to fry monkeys' brains. That certainly scared a lot of my friends, who ended up deeming him the "mad scientist." He looks the part, too, with his messy hair and eccentric personality. I guess I got that from him.

Anyhoo, moving on. My mom was a computer genius [;)] , but to comply with the insane amount of extracurriculars of my brother and I, and to take on the role of a Scouts Canada leader, she became a cafeteria coordinator. And holy cow, does she do a great job! I can't cook a thing, proven by the fact that I basically blew up my kitchen in 6th grade. I think her job is a lot more demanding and challenging than my dad's job, because not only does she cook, she has to manage budgets, and picky kids! It's pretty unfair that she makes less than my dad in this hard-to-deal-with position.

Well, I certainly learned a lot today about the workplace, and I'll be sure to stay in school, because I don't think people want me going near any kitchens any time soon. Plus, I know that even though kitchen jobs are more tedious, office jobs (like my dad's) mean more pay. As to what I want to do? I'm saving that for another time.

How was your day? Tell me all about it,

Grace [Wow, that's big!]

  1. I went to this workshop by the local community youth services. or whatever.

It was kind of boring, but I won a weekly metropass,

    : )

Unfortunately, I don't take the bus in the mornings, so I don't get the full satisfaction, but I have abused it a few times. >: )

I didn't go with my parents, because 1) My mom works in Burlington. Yes, she drives every morning. The good thing is that her company pays for her 407 ETR toll transponder thingy, so it doesn't take that long to get there.
and 2) They work in boring, IT office jobs. I've been there before, and all they do is sit in front of the computer, with the occasional *exciting* phone call or meeting.
