Moment of Truth

Good evening. Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the world that the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of Al-Qaeda, and a terrorist who's responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent men, women, and children.

Reality will soon come into focus after the euphoria fades from Monday's stunning election results that gave the NDP official opposition in Canada's parliament. Canada will be ruled by a right-wing government again, now with a majority of the House of Commons seats and freedom to do whatever it likes.

... And your 2011-2012 grade 10 rep... Christine!

Why is the world so depressing? Let's just ignore the fact that I kind of disappeared for two weeks, and get to the point of today's post. And what, you ask, is that? Well. It is one of two things. Either politics just suck, or I've got reverse S.A.D.

No really. What is wrong with people nowadays? Great! We've killed a terrorist leader, shot his face beyond recognition, and unceremoniously dumped his body in an ocean. That's totally not going to piss off his devoted followers, who totally aren't secretly planning retribution.

Elections Canada? Conservative majority? Who the hell cares. Not like any of the parties are going to do anything. Bad economy? We'll just fix it by having the police work double time, randomly giving people $400 tickets for EVERYTHING and ANYTHING! I recommend the best way to choose government representatives--don't. That, or the next best thing, if you intend on voting to make yourself feel better and having an excuse for bashing the government later on--vote for the candidate with the most teeth.

School elections? Is there a point? In this day and age, when votes can be bought with lollipops, brownies, and colourful balloons...DEFINITELY! Because maybe one day, when the majority of students finally wake up, and think beyond those food-coloured and calorie-filled treats...THEY'LL STILL VOTE FOR THE CANDIDATE WITH THE BEST CANDY! That's just the way things work.

Do I come across as bitter, sarcastic, and condescending? Sorry to burst any fragile bubbles, but over the period of just two weeks, I've begun to see things in a new light.

Our world, society, schools, and classrooms are filled with one thing: chokingly cruel reality. No teacher is going to actually care that you spent 6 hours on that project. They'll naturally choose to give you a crappy B, while giving their personal favourite, whose work a bad replica of your baby cousin's dirty diapers, full, undeserved marks. WITH BONUS. [If your wonderful teacher can spell 'bonus', that is.]

Oh yeah, and don't expect to be rewarded, or even respected for sharing those notes you took all weekend to make, or helping that kid time and again in class. When the time comes when you ask a favour, they'll just give you a weak excuse, and walk away. Or spread nasty rumours about you, and talk behind your back.

**

I'm not writing this to prove a point, or show a vendetta against anyone. It's just that after all this time, I really wish that I knew earlier. Or that somebody had told me. So here I am, telling you: being nice gets you absolutely nowhere. Except completely and devastatingly screwed. In more than one way.

Whether or not you choose to listen, that's your choice.

Sorry if you began reading, expecting my sunshine-and-daisies usual jolly posts. Or if you were fooled by all the pretty colours and pictures. But that's life: a truly unexpected and depressing twist, hidden beneath a pretty exterior.

It's not too late. Change your way of thinking.

Keep your expectations low, so you won't be as disappointed when things go disarray.

On that happy note, I leave you.

Well, in my opinion, being nice does not not get you nowhere. When you are nice, people look more highly of you, and see that you are a better person. Just ignore those who don't, be optimistic and happy.

I know that feeling of being let down, it is quite bad, and you have my sympathy.

Anyways, enough of that ranting. Good to see you still keeping up with your posts, very nice. I don't think anyone else have a post after January, perhaps maybe one more person (not me).

The end of second semester is near, *Sigh*, time goes by in a blink of an eye.

Anyways, great job, looking forward to your future posts,
    Zelin

  2. :) Thanks.

Yeah, been kinda down lately. But maybe it's just the annoyingly great weather. Either way, I'm definitely looking towards the summertime.

    Will keep posting!

I'm sorry to hear you are not going to threw the best of times - but what in the world happenned to your positive attitude ???

I hope you'll find it soon ;)I don't like reading grumpy posts :( They make me feel sad because I know you are unhappy. Please cheer up ! :D

(And that's not true - you do care about politics! Rememeber where we met ??? I can understand you unhappy with it, but the fact that you don't like it proves that you do care)

  4. Dear good old friend,

My positive attitude has turned into a needle and decided to hide itself in a haystack somewhere. ;)

Don't worry--the grumpy posts are quite short-lived. For I have found the ultimate cheer-up: WATCHING GLEE! (All the episodes, starting from season one)

And of course, you're right again. No matter how much our government saddens me, politics I cannot deny.

Anyhow, I still yet to reply to your email! GAH. Must. Remember. :)

  7. Sorry to hear you've been having a bad week/spell/stretch of time. At least you got it out. Rants always sound better when you can see them.

I agree that people kind of went overboard the with Osama Bin Laden thing. I wasn't here when 9/11 happened, but I honestly don't think doing that to anyone is in any way honourable, regardless of the circumstances.

Also, what you said about politics, like, completely contradicts what we're learning in civics (it's our civic duty to vote and we have to stay informed of the issues and blah blah blahblahblah). I don't think it's a good idea to just not vote for anyone. You don't have a right to complain and you're adding to voter apathy. (wow, I sound very civil. Kind of. :/) Worse comes to worse, you can vote for the Green Party. (I mean, they have a chance, right? They even won a seat this time....!)

On the bright side, the weather has been steadily improving. (Well, depends. I kind of liked the rain.) AND school is nearly out. (Exams start the 17 for us. Or was that the 16? Well, one of those days. :D)
