I move to ...

... write a really awesome blog post telling all the reason why I wasn't at school today!

Any guesses? No, I wasn't abducted by aliens. Or travelling back in time. Or hiking in the Amazon Rain forest.

What I was doing though, was just as interesting. I was at Leaside High School, participating in the Model G20 Conference! Oh, stop groaning and muttering "nerd" under your breath. I had quite a fantastic day, having avid debates and discussions with other politically inclined students for my topic, which was Terrorism.

I had to get to school extra early this morning, at 7:45! How many of you were still in bed then? (Everybody raises hands) We got to the Leaside High School auditorium just in time to hear one of the speakers they asked to attend tell us his very sad and emotionally moving childhood. He had come from Congo, but the rebel soldiers had taken away his childhood, by kidnapping him, raping his sisters and mother in front of him, and poisoning his father. This all happened before he was 12, and he eventually left the country to come to Canada. What he said inspired be to take a greater part in engaging in social activism. No child should have to go through what he went through, yet many still do today.

After the opening, we retrieved our name tags and folders, and moved into our separate committee rooms. I represented China in the terrorism committee, and it was my first Model G20 experience, so I was very nervous. Turns out, I didn't have to be nervous at all, because as we progressed, I quickly got the swing of things, and was actively stating my opinion, making points of information, and even making friendly amendments!

The day went by really fast, and before I knew it, it was time to leave! We had only gotten through two of the three resolutions for our topic. The closing ceremony was comprised of thanking the LHS students and staff who organized and ran the event, and handing out awards to the best speaker and best delegate from each committee. Unfortunately, I didn't get an award this time, but two very well prepared and deserved students in my committee did, as much as I hate to admit it, Mr. Argentina. -.-"

I would say there is lots to take away from this experience, and I will definitely be signing up for this next year. My favourite parts about today were: the extreme number of SHINIES at LHS (a LOT more than at our school), the awesome choice of food at lunch, the professionalism and authenticity of the setup, and of course, the free pen and pin that we all received. The $20 bucks I paid to attend were definitely worth it, and so was arriving home at 5:00 pm.

That's basically it, folks! On the down side, I missed what I have heard was a spectacular visit from Mr. Gelbloom's band in music class, but not much for my other courses. I will print out my repetition assignment number 12, and complete my French workbook homework. I heard there's nothing for geography, but I will go confirm that.

POINT OF ORDER:
The delegate of China moves to adjourn post.
All in favour? (Everybody raises hands)

POST ADJOURNED.

OK then, bye!
Grace
